Alone doesn’t always have to mean lonely. This may sound a little strange, but you have to learn how to enjoy being in your own company. Get so familiar with who you are that you actually learn to love being by yourself. Is there something you enjoy that maybe the people closest to you don’t? If so, don’t give it up; instead, do it during your dedicated me time. When you utilize your alone time properly, it doesn’t feel lonely at all. Instead, it will feel more like the great escape away from the troubles in the world and from others.
When feelings of loneliness overcome you, it’s easy to end up in the arms of an old lover or in the presence of Mr. Wrong, but stay strong and fight the temptation for temporary satisfaction. It’s much better to be lonely than to deal with the emotional lows from giving someone who is unworthy of your time and efforts an opportunity to hurt you. In the long run, you will only be letting yourself down.
There are plenty of ways to cope with being lonely, but make sure you deal with your issues in a healthy manner. Self destructive habits occur often when you are vulnerable. Don’t allow yourself to fall victim to these things. Pour yourself a glass of wine, throw on some workout clothes and sweat it out, eat a big bowl of ice cream, buy yourself something you’ve been wanting, or take a nice bubble bath. Whatever it is that makes you feel good about YOU; do that!
