In the African-American community, you can find women with all different types of hairstyles. We wear our hair natural state, relaxed, weave, with low fades, braids and locs. As of late, it has been stated by many of our men that they have a disdain for weave. So EGL took to social media to find out how black men really feel about our hair. Here is what some of them had to say.

“I don’t care what her hair looks like, as long as it looks nice.”Chris, Chicago, IL

“Weave is ridiculous. I wish my sisters would start loving themselves more and wearing their hair. I don’t care if it is relaxed or natural. Just wear your own hair!”Aries, Chicago, IL

“Weave stinks. No, it really does. A lot of women tend to buy the weave that isn’t really washable. It gets matted, it smells and they really don’t realize how much of a turn off it is. It seems like [black] women are the number one consumers of weaves and extensions. I think it’s ridiculous.”Ryo, Atlanta, GA

“I love the natural look on women. It turns me on. You all can keep the weave, however.”John, Detroit, MI

“Whatever makes a woman look good, is what I like. I don’t have a preference either way, as long as she looks presentable. Weave, natural or what not.”Brian, New York, NY

Sometimes, as women, we can’t win when it comes to our hair. If we wear weave, we hear it all from trying to be White to being fake. If we wear it natural, it is deemed inappropriate for many workplaces and too unattractive to men.

However, ladies, we are not our hair! But if that’s really the case, why do we shine such a spotlight on it? Food for thought…
